Training: Dr. Julia Vitale earned her Bachelor’s in Psychology, as well as her Doctorate in Psychology at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY. Dr. Vitale completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University Counseling Center at Notre Dame. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Genesee Valley Psychology (GVP) in Rochester NY. She is currently the Practicum Program Director at GVP and a Staff Psychologist.

Clinical Expertise: Dr. Vitale’s training in clinical and school psychology has allowed her the opportunity to work with children, adults, and families across a variety of settings. Areas of clinical expertise and interest include Anxiety Disorders, such as Social Anxiety, OCD, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Concerns related to identity, relationships, and interpersonal functioning are further areas of interest and expertise. Dr. Vitale utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to inform individualized treatment. 

Diversity & Inclusion: Dr. Vitale’s commitment is for all to feel safe and know that the complexity of who they are matters and will be affirmed in therapy. Beyond the therapy room, Dr. Vitale’s approach extends to continual personal reflection, learning, and advocacy. This must include an active understanding and an urgency to respond to issues related to social injustice.  

Approach: In the therapy room, Dr. Vitale’s approach is to offer an environment that is warm, safe, and action oriented. Therapy often requires facing discomforts, and Dr. Vitale is passionate about approaching these discomforts, while also championing clients’ strengths. Dr. Vitale’s therapy approach is informed by evidenced based interventions and orientations, including person-centered, emotion-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and acceptance and commitment therapy frameworks. 

Ages: Dr. Vitale treats adults and adolescents.
